Breathwork and Baladi is focused on breathwork for the different types of music and energy of the Egyptian taqasim baladi - sometimes known as a "baladi progression."

When dancing this type of baladi, we start with a slower, more internal energy (the taqasim), then expand our energy field outward as the tempo picks up. To conserve your energy as well as stay relaxed, you can use your breath differently for the different rhythm sections...and this is applicable to other dance pieces as well.  I include improvised demonstrations to a short baladi, with breath-focused voice over, so you can hear the breathing as well as learning to focus your energy - for your own dance as well as for an audience.

These are techniques you can put into practice right away!  Enjoy!

Ranya’s material is informative and inspirational. Her studies in yoga, Pilates and neuropsychology enhance her gift for teaching in an approachable way. Ranya’s depth of knowledge of Egyptian dance and baladi, in particular, is unparalleled. She brings to teaching her experience performing internationally, her research and work with key Egyptian artists such as Mona Said, Nelly Fouad and Nany and musicians such as Nabawy, who played in Samia Gamal’s band and for Fifi Abdou. I highly recommend working with Ranya. She has a lot to offer as a teacher and mentor; not only is Ranya incredibly knowledgeable, she is warm, open and great fun.

Ranya has really taken a lot of time in her personal education to learn about the mechanics in terms of how we move and how we breathe, and what's going even psychologically. She also has a really good appreciation for different body types and different abilities in the dance, and different sensibilities, and it makes a world of difference in her teaching and people's ability to learn and take in things.

Ranya's breathing technique and the imagery training are amazing. I've tried to implement these ideas in my different dance pieces and I do find they work very well.

Learning how to dance from my core, how to focus my attention and use of breath work through Ranya’s methods has really transformed my dance. I cannot recommend Ranya enough. If you truly want to invest in your dance and take it to another level, invest in Ranya, you won’t regret it!
