Leilat Hob

Explore classic oriental dance steps to the Oum Koulsoum classic, Leilat Hob. In this program we explore versions of the lilting and dramatic instrumental introduction of the song (the muqaddimah), in versions danced by the famous Soheir Zaki and Dina.

Leilat Hob (Night of Love), composed by influential composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab and sung by Oum Koulsoum, was one of the celebrated collaborations between these icons of Egyptian music. In this program for dancers, we work with my "Organically Grown Egyptian Oriental" approach, comparing and emulating the styles of iconic Egyptian dancers, in particular, where and how they express the continuity of the melody and rhythms in their dancing. From here, we explore how you can bring your own creativity to interpreting this music. Enjoy!
